Mother’s Day and Brunch go together like hot wings and strong liquor. That is, great. But what do you do when you live in a different city than your mom?
You go to brunch anyway! It’s the thought that counts right?
On this cloudy Mother’s Day, we (those of us who couldn’t celebrate with mom in person) brunched at Ocean 6 Seventeen – aptly named because it’s located at 617 Stamps Landing, near Granville Island.
Despite the clouds, we decided to dine outside on their patio. The view from Ocean 6 Seventeen is great. Vancouver is a beautiful city even when she’s draped in grey skies.
The Brunch Menu is full of appetizing choices. I went with the Smoked Wild Salmon Eggs Benedict.
From the rich hollandaise sauce, to the smoky salmon, to the runny eggs, to the fresh lyonnaise potatoes, my dish was really delicious. The complementary scones were awesome.
At $12, the dish isn’t exactly cheap. However, considering the waterfront location and fresh ingredients used, the price is fair. Unlike many other waterfront restaurants in Vancouver, Ocean 6 Seventeen doesn’t seem to suffer from a pretentious atmosphere. Simple, fresh, and cozy are words that I’d use to describe this place. I’m looking forward to finding out what their lunch and dinner menu offer.
8 out of 10
PS: Remember to treat your parents for breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner as often as possible, not just when it’s Mother’s/Father’s day.
