Gold Train Express Restaurant – Pho fo’ Lunch
A member of thecafsux lunch crew will be lunching and blogging from a new part of town. To bid farewell, we decided to try something new: we went to a nearby Vietnamese Pho joint (located at 3320 Kingsway, Vancouver).
Looking for Vietnamese food at 4AM in the morning?
Seeking the best in town?
Do you prefer your beef noodle soup fresh?
Lovers? (?)
Hate fake Cambodian & Vietnamese cuisine?
If your answer to any of the above questions is “yes”, you’re in luck because this restaurant’s sign reads:
Open 24 HR Gold Train Express Restaurant The Best in Town FRESH BEEF NOODLE SOUP lovers AUTHENTIC CAMBODIAN & VIETNAMESE CUISINE
Concise they are not.
The craziness extends inside the restaurant where there are numerous neon signs and loud trance music playing. Is this a Vietnamese restaurant or a rave?
There’s a large bowl of pho (pronounced “fuh“) in front of me so I guess it is a restaurant. And how’s it taste? Mediocre. The noodles didn’t taste authentic, there wasn’t much meat, and the soup wasn’t all that tasty. Still, pho is pho: a decent and affordable ($5.95 in this case) way to fill one’s self up.
I probably won’t be back unless I am super desperate for pho in the early hours of the morning and/or I need a place to watch the interesting characters that roam Kingsway from.

6 out of 10 was already too generous.
i say more like 3/10

they used to have really good orange milkshakes. but then one day i went a few years ago and it was less than impressive.
watch out the dirty Beef balls,Some pick them up from …..
WRONG TYPE,NOT SOME,IS SOMEONE PICK THE BEEF BALLS FROM…..(u guess)..SLEEPY NOW
As far as i recall the food was ok and you can’t beat the hours but my friend and i were harassed and threatened by local street dealers while there and prostitutes walk back and forth in front of the window and USE the restaurants bathroom.
