Japadog Episode II: Pender and Burrard

For those who haven’t heard (listen up Ice Cube/Jin from LOST/Anthony Bourdain/Steven Segal), Japadog - creator of the famous Terimayo hot dog – has opened up a 2nd location on Burrard & Pender. With the same cheerful smiles and a slightly larger cart, they’re armed with a few additions to their already innovative menu.

Japadog II

Of the few times we’ve ventured down, there’s always a crowd gathering at the stand.

Japadog 2

Ed: I went with the Korrokke. Taste? Think steak and potatoes in a bun. Not bad. Very unique and definitely filling. However, as intrigue as my weiner dog with a Japanese name  was by this Japadog, Terimayo is still tops for me *high fives Anthony Bourdain*.

Japadog II

Dan: My first try was the Okura. Never had this veg before, and I’m not a fan of the natto-like texture, but its worth a taste.

Japadog 2

Dan: Last is the Sakana fish sausage. They must have been using tropical fishes in this sausage cause the weiner is bright pink, and reminds me of bubble gum and cotton candies. But the tuna on top does make up for it somewhat. If you happen to be a non red meat eater, this is a good alternative to tofu dogs. But I’ll stick to old fashioned beef.

Ed: All in all, we’re not crazy about the new flavors but you can never have too much Japadog in our opinion. And, in case you find yourself constantly forgetting about Japadog, follow @japadog on Twitter to get bombarded with informative updates like, “How are our friends today? Pay Day? Celebrate weekend with Japa Dog! =)“  every single day.

Japadog (Burrard & Pender) on Urbanspoon

  1. Gotta admit that they do serve a pretty damn good hot dog! My fav is the Teri-Mayo. Yum!

  2. Terimayo for the win, for sure! Hard to top that but I’m looking forward to checking out some of the new ones, especially the fish.

  3. I drop by the area were it was supposed to be located but, that day, they were not set up yet. Bummer. Given that it is not that different, I guess I will delay my visit for a while. As for the food…

Why does a fish sausage sound so… odd (for the lack of a better word)? But, steak and potatoes in a bun, now, that sounds interesting. Finally, that picture of all the people queueing for a hot dog! Priceless or there is something wrong with people? (Not to mention Japadog is #1 in Urbanspoon listing of best restaurants in Vancouver!)

  4. The new location is surrounded by office towers, and no competition from street vendors near by, which might explain the lineup.

  5. So… those new dogs look interesting. I’ve had a seafood sausage before from a restaurant (don’t remember which one) and it was pretty good. I guess I have to give the fish dog a try. But I’m with the others… TERIMAYO all the way!

  6. I just ate at the new location for the first time today, coincidentally. I had one with kurobota (?) pork and oh my goodness, it was amazing. Love it. The fish one looked gross though.

  7. We were out enjoying the sun at the new location today too! Around 12:30PM.
Tried the Cheese Terimayo. I was disappointed to find out that they’re just using processed cheese slices, but it still tastes pretty good!

  8. I’m very tempted to try Japadog because of all the hype. I’m just hoping it’s worth breaking my ban on eating hot dogs! – I haven’t since I was 8 and found a bone in one.

  9. Hi Ed,

Processed cheese??? Well, I’ll take your word on it tasting good. It’s just that processed cheese brings back baaaaad memories of some Hong Kong style cafes using it on spaghetti or baked rice instead of real cheese…

  10. I highly recommend their Spicy Cheese Terimayo. Its dynamite!

Japadogs was at the Japan Fair at Van Dusen Gardens to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival and their booth had one of the longest line-ups along with the takoyaki stand. I didn’t choose japadogs because I know where to find them, but if I had enough room left after the takoyaki, I certainly would have enjoyed one just like a zillion others.

Love the wasabi mayo, it rocks.

  11. it’s not even 8am but the pics of your japadogs are making me sooooo hungry! eeks!

  12. Hi Dan & Ed,
